DANCE THERAPIST
KIRSTY FROMHOLTZ
Dance Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to assist in treatment of a range of emotional, cognitive, physical and behavioural problems. Like all creative therapies the emphasis is placed on the creative process, rather than the finished product. Dance-movement therapy works on the principle that mind and body are inextricably linked and that the health of one affects the other.

Some of the benefits of Dance Movement therapy include:
Enhanced general health and well-being
A greater awareness of your body
Improved relationship with the body and body image.
Positive changes in lifestyle, attitudes and behaviours
Access to creativity
Self-expression – creatively and non-verbally
Improved fitness, coordination, mobility and flexibility

Dance-Movement Therapy at the Forsight Foundation
The Dance-movement therapy program has been running at the Forsight Foundation North Rocks office since 2007. Fifteen of the residents from different group homes attend the weekly dance therapy sessions designed and run by dance therapist Kirsty Fromholtz. The sessions involve the residents using movement to express themselves creatively and to encourage a different way of communicating. The sessions also focus on improving the residents physical well-being with exercise and movements aimed at improving mobility, coordination and flexibility.

The residents enjoy learning to move their bodies in new and interesting ways and have had the opportunity to share and perform their skills to large audiences on two occasions.
